New Study Links Ultra-Processed Foods to Accelerated Aging
A landmark study following more than 22,000 participants over 15 years has found strong evidence that diets high in ultra-processed foods are linked to significantly accelerated biological aging.
Researchers at Kings College London used telomere length as a reliable biomarker of biological age and found that people who derived more than 50% of their caloric intake from ultra-processed foods had telomeres equivalent to being three to four years older biologically.
> This is some of the strongest evidence yet that what we eat affects how quickly we age at a fundamental biological level. — Professor David Green, Kings College London
The findings add to a growing body of research connecting dietary habits to long-term health outcomes.
